Blame recession cuts. Pizza Hut reportedly is slicing the “pizza” from its name. The fast food chain will now be known simply as “The Hut.”

The chain, which has recently expanded its menu beyond pizza to include pasta, could not immediately be reached for comment Friday. Media and advertising trade publication MediaWeek characterized the name change as an attempt to transform its stores into hip hangouts. There are more than 10,000 Pizza Huts worldwide.

The new “hut” stores will be more than a place to simply pick up some take-out, according to MediaWeek. They will include televisions that broadcast local TV shows of the particular country. The company has tried to become more hip and youth-friendly in recent months. In April, they introduced tweeting service at few outlests that uses the online service Twitter to update customers about store events and news.

Well, I had got the news of ‘pizza hut changing its name’ around six months back. If few of my friends remember, i had mentioned this to them. But during that time, the info i had got was that they are gonna change the name to “The Pasta Hut”, as they had recently introduced pastas and other health oriented food.

The above said name change is going to take place worldwide. But I wonder if this name change is going to take place in India. There had been many changes in Pizza Hut and other YUM brands that never happened in India. One can just wait and watch whats gonna happen with this brand now. BTW… am a regular visitor at Pizza Hut.
